Last Energy Receives Grid Connection Offer For South Wales Microreactors

Connection Offer Accepted, Llynfi Clean Energy Project Advances Transmission Ability

Bridgend, South WalesLast Energy, a full-service developer of 20 MWe micro modular nuclear power plants, announced today that it accepted a grid connection offer from National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) for 22 MW of export capacity and 3 MW of import capacity for its first unit in South Wales.

The connection agreement marks a key milestone for Last Energy’s Llynfi Clean Energy Project (“Prosiect Egni Glan Llynfi”), which will deliver reliable, carbon-free baseload electricity to mid-size manufacturers, data centers, and other customers. The agreement will enable Last Energy’s South Wales project to deliver electricity via the grid, in addition to private-wire connections, contributing to grid security and decarbonisation throughout the region.

The Llynfi Clean Energy Project will support the UK’s ‘Clean Power 2030’ ambition to decarbonise its electricity system. Last Energy will use grid capacity to deliver scalable, clean power and support growing industrial energy demands across the UK.

In October 2024, Last Energy announced a proposal to deploy four 20 MWe micro-nuclear power plants at the site of the former coal fired power station at Llynfi, Llangynwyd, Bridgend.
